This worked really well for about 20 logs and then there was a hole in it suddenly. Was hoping it would be tougher.

The cone is tough, and did a great job pulling over rocks.The nose hole is 2.5" x 1.5", and the depth of the cone is about 25". The opening can handle 20" logs as advertised.Bottom line: I don't regret the purchase and I plan to abuse it some more.Things I didn't think about before buying:- In my neck of the woods, it is not uncommon to climb on 45-55 degree slopes, and even steeper angles on the road cut/fill slopes. Typically it is easier to fell a tree on the uphill side of the road and drag down. This cone has no way to secure it to the log/choker, so when pulling downhill (and nose-diving hard into a road) the cone just slides down the rope doesn't help at all.- If you use a rope choker, you want this cone to stay "snug" on the log to protect the choker from abrasion while skidding. I tied a drop loop in my choker, and used a large carabiner in order to both choke the log and prevent the cone from sliding up past the carabiner while I was pulling downhill. That was a fun knot to loosen up! I'm sure I can do better, but haven't put thought into it yet.- The cone isn't heavy, but it is bulky. Hauling it up a hill is a pita. I often tie a rope to an uphill stump/tree to aid in climbing from the road and up/down a steep berm. I grab rope with one hand while holding a chainsaw/cable/winch/line with the other. Remember those 45-55 degree slopes? It sure would be nice to have an easy way to backpack this cone. As it was, I put a large carabiner inside it and used another rope to pull it up behind me like a bell. Worked well enough and no big deal. Certainly easier than a saw.If the cone came with some mechanism like a built-in self-locking pulley to keep it snug on the log/choker, it would net 5 stars from me. Maybe a prussik knot with a fat rope would do the trick. Hmm...

Within the first 15 minutes of use there was a whole worn through it was only drug on horse pastures and ace the driveway.Great concept but poor quality.

I highly recommend this skidding cone!! I’m removing trees for fire protection near a house. The property has thousands of rocks that would catch the ends of the trees making it more difficult and dangerous. With the cone over the cut end of the log (tree) they slide over the ground. After three days of skidding 40 trees the cone is still working!! A real great invention.Besides not catching on rocks the come keeps the end from digging into the ground as you pull it.

we lay our big bucks and bear on 1/4 inch belting. attach the rope thru the cone and secure to belting . NO MARKS OR HAIR LOSS ,FOR MOUNTING .

I have been able to skid out heavy logs with an ATV using the cone and a log chain, I'm talking about logs you could not move manually or lift without a peavy or other log jack. They slid out easily, stayed clean, and did not tear up the ground. This thing is very tough, shows only minor scratches. Can also snub a bunch of smaller diameter logs together and pull them out easily in one go - no snagging.

Exactly what I was expecting

I have a narrow path with a steep valley on each side (old strip mine). I have lots of dead timber (mostly ash), some still standing. This cone allows me to fell the tree and pull 12 foot logs from the valley onto the path. I tie a bowline knot to the front guard of my UTV, run the rope through a snatch ring, connected to a tree saver via soft shackle (live tree on opposite side of path to the log I'm pulling), then run the rope through the skidding cone and tie another bowline to the loop of a steel chocker cable which surrounds the log. The cone makes an impossible task possible. If you can't get the cone under the front of the log, it generally seats itself as it is being pulled, as long as the knot holding the log does not get caught in the skidding cone hole - it has to be able to slide through to pull the log up into the cone. I love this thing and I'm surprised I have not cracked the plastic given the beating I've given it.

Works perfect

The skid cone performs well and makes life easier when yarding logs to the deck. The one thing I might suggest to make it better is to add a couple of slots in it for straps to a person could put it on their back when hauling it back and forth and up and down log lots. It probably works great if you are using equipment to skid logs but when you are doing it all manually it is quite the cumbersome load to manage.

Cone works great

Here in NH, there isn't rocks in our soil...there's soil around our rocks. This makes dragging out logs much easier. I've used this with a skidding winch but mostly with my ATV. Just bounces off the boulders and stumps. Very rugged.

Love it, no more logs digging into the dirt. It is tough too, like the old Timex watches takes a licking and keeps on ticking

Great product. Works great on moving logs on ground.Keeps log end from digging into ground. Helps winch logs up onto trailer. Well worth the cost.

I ordered the skidding cone along with my pcw4000. Great set up! I was pleasantly surprised of the thickness of the plastic. Its thicker and more resilient to wear than I thought it’d be. Like plastic on a slide at the park, but not too heavy. Works well!

This product is a must have for anyone dragging logs on any terrain I wish i would have got it sooner it’s cut my log skidding time and effort in half and helps significantly reduce the amount of strain on my winches love it it’s made very well and functions exactly how I hoped amazing what a difference it has made and I use it a lot for log skidding out in the forest not light landscaping use or around the house this thing goes effortlessly through bushes rocks and any in between. Don’t wait buy this now if you skidd logs up to 20” in diameter it’s a game changer!!!

I’ve been using this skidding cone for almost 15 years, and it’s seen some really rough duty. I finally broke my first one pulling old growth lodgepole with my truck. More than it was designed for. I can’t work without one, so I’m on my second one. Not bad, 15 years of abuse. It’s one tough piece of plastic. Really saves tearing up the ground too. Great tool!

I have recently purchased a skidding cone, a snatch block, a caribiner and a tree saver strap.
All of these items are of the highest quality and help me tremendously in skidding logs.

I liked everything about it can’t wait to use it in the woods it will save a lot of work.

It works good but you can take a old 4x4 truck and cut into quarters and get 4 cones that will do the same thing alot cheaper.

Love this nose skid, anyone in tree service with a winch should have this product. No more digging up yards, logs nose diving on the way to the chipper. Cone alot bigger than originally thought, nice size fits whole trees in it easy.

Worked great moving some southern pine logs.
