I purchased this about 8 months ago in the winter. “As a tree climber” for a logging job. Once I started learning how to use it and understanding mechanical advantage, it was on like donkey Kong. I can’t begin to give enough praise. This machine is a huge asset to my small tree climber business. The amount of logs I have pulled up some crazy train. Is insane. Once you understand what the winch is capable of and how you manipulate it with mechanical advantage, and adding pulleys. You really start to get your moneys worth. I went with the PCW5000. Because I’m a tree guy and wanted the max capacity. But I would highly recommend this to any small business or land owner with lots of logging. A few thing you should buy right from the beginning.

I bought the pcw5000 with the big game and arborist kits. I tried to find a dealer within a reasonable driving distance from me but was unsuccessful. I was hesitant ordering something like this online but did. Everything came well packaged and in a timely manner. The winch and accessories are high quality equipment.
I have just two negatives to share. First I ordered the XL (200m) rope bag. I assumed because the red (100m) rope bag had shoulder straps that the larger (200m) rope bag would as well. It does not. It seems like shoulder straps would be an obvious feature for a bag designed to carry over 55lbs of rope through the woods.
Second it was annoying that a few days after making my purchase the company ran a sale on the pcw5000 and the sale price was a couple hundred bucks less. Obviously they knew this sale was coming and probably could have passed that same deal onto me especially since I ordered both accessory kits. But such as life.
To end in a positive again I am very impressed with the quality of the winch and equipment and how well it was packaged for shipment. Quality like this is rare in today’s world.
We love our portable winches and have 3 to support our detention pond maintenance work. They provide flexible, powerful, and fast solutions to moving tree debris in any topographical environment. We simply cannot work without them.

PS: This tool is not a toy. Follow the instructions and guidelines and you will be successful. One day, I anchored the winch to a tree that was not strong enough and it started to fall while I was operating the winch. That was totally unexpected. I was not hurt, but what a surprise!

Placed a big order with lots of parts. Delivered quickly and everything was arrived as ordered. Very impressed!!
Purchased a PWC5000 in the summer of 2023. Used it for cutting firewood. Didn’t seem to have the pulling power that some were demonstrating online. Pulled the carb apart and found some minute pieces of brass in the main jet, mostly like left over from the production process. Hopefully when next summer rolls around the problem will have been solved.

Have been using my winch for over 10 years now and can't imagine going into the woods without it. Have pulled moose, down trees, stuck vehicles, elk and deer with great success. Indispensable!
Years ago watched a pcw3000 pull my harvested moose down to the Churchill River. Now I have a pcw5000-A & have storm damaged logging to do. Can’t wait!!! Tried the cone!!! What a super accessory!!!! Sure is a time saver!

I only got to use it for a short while due to other commitments however, in that short time I found out the choker chain is rather short if using it on a log that's on the larger diameter for the skidding cone. Not enough chain the reach through the cone. As for the winch, it really struggled with the larger logs but I attribute that partly to being in wet snow and the cone not fitting. Looks like more pulleys and a longer chain are needed. All in all, I like it and am looking forward to giving it a real workout. The Honda engine ran great out of the box, very straight forward setup.

The PCA-1290 Skidding Cone and PCA-1295 Choker Chain are able to work with trunks up to 20 inches in diameter. Maybe your trees are a little over that size!
The power you get from your winch all come from one thing: the capstan drum. As long as the rope can grip to the drum, you won't have issues. But when it is wet or slips, try using pulleys to create mechanical advantage and double your pulling force.

Bought this to skid 12" to 18" plus 20 foot logs with. Went above my expectations in delivery, service, and performance. Great product.
I normally don’t review products but I want to share my experience using the PCW5000.
Before using the winch I had some reservations on whether it would be able to accomplish the task of pulling some trees the opposite way of a severe lean. They were leaning into a small orchard and needed to come down.
I am happy to say the PCW5000 along with a couple of pulleys worked perfectly! Using a locking pulley to keep tension on a tree as I notched and finished the back cuts I then finished pulling the trees over with the PCW5000.
Next will be to use the winch to pull some dead ash out of a dry creek bed.
There is a lot of nice firewood that I have passed up due to not wanting to carry the rounds up the sides of the creek bed. With the right set up of pulleys and the log cone, I expect the winch to be up to the task of pulling the logs up and onto level ground.

Have used the winch on two occasions inn past week. Both times for about 2 hours each.
1/ Engine worked well with no initial hick-ups.
2/no problems setting up.
3/ There is definitely a learning curve.
a/ coiling the rope
b/far easier to use the chain hooked to the rope
c/ single rope versus doubled over
d/ finding way to wrap two or three logs together
4/definitely has far more pulling power when doubled over.
5/ does tear up the ground a bit, but far less than a tractor would, even today with wet ground
6/So far, have been quite happy with winch. Will no doubt find more ways to improve my efficiency with use.
7/ BTW: the videos gave me a lot of info
8/One thing I did was lay out the cable and used a bit of spray paint every 15
meters to know how far I was extended out.
9/ rope isn’t as white any more.

As an older person I needed something that would perform tasks that have become more difficult and that was foolproof and safe. My PCW5000 kit has worked perfectly maneuvering and loading logs, including getting large logs up the ramps to my sawmill. Really appreciate the quality and simple operation!!
Honda engine starts easily. Great in Maritime woodlands. Like the name says, very portable.
Great winch! This isn't in the same class as the old chainsaw winches. Used these in remote ship wreck salvage work. Tree bracket was amazing. Also works great with the log bullet head for skidding out your timber harvest. Quick shipping and awsome customer service.

Used in mixed land type including boggy land which is machine-inaccessible. Very simple to use, extremely durable and very reliable. Pulls tree trunk after tree trunk and simply needs gas refills (infrequently) and occasional oil changes (very easy). Unbeatable piece of kit.... Choker chain could be a touch longer
